Sebagai perangkat komunikasi portable yang lengkap dengan fitur komputasi dan Internet, maka diperlukan pengamanan ekstra untuk smartphone BlackBerry, termasuk pengamanan tempat penyimpanan informasi pribadi. Berikut trik mudah untuk mengamankan data pribadi BlackBerry :

Memakai PIN
Selain menjadi identitas setiap handset BlackBerry, PIN juga bisa digunakan untuk mengirimkan data rahasia ke orang lain, sesama pengguna BlackBerry. Anda bisa menggunakan PIN dengan masuk ke menu Message, pilih Compose PIN, masukkan PIN tujuan, isi pesan (bisa termasuk foto), lalu klik kirim. Dengan pemasangan PIN, maka data yang dikirimkan akan menjadi lebih aman.

Memakai password
Password juga dapat digunakan untuk pengunci BlackBerry. Untuk melakukan pengaturan password dapat ke menu Optins -> Password.

Bersihkan data
Ketika Anda mungkin akan menjual BlackBerry, Anda pastikan bahwa datanya sudah dihapus. Untuk menghapus data dengan cepat, gunakan Memory Clean, walaupun menu ini tidak menghapus semua data. Untuk membuat semua data terhapus, masuk ke menu Options -> Security Options -> General Settings, lalu tab logo BlackBerry dan pilih Wipe Handheld.

Content Protection
Metode enrkipsi content tersebut bekerja layaknya program enkripsi di computer. Data yang sudah terlindungi akan tampil dengan icon ‘gembok ‘ tertutup, dan ketika data akan dibaca akan didekripsi dulu, dan tampil gambar icon ‘gembok’ terbuka. Semua data yang terenkripsi hanya dapat diakses dengan menggunakan kata kunci tertentu.
